What is paint protection film(PPF)?
Paint protection film, also called clear bra is a thermoplastic urethane often self-healing film applied to painted surfaces of a new or used cars in order to protect the paint from stone chips, bug splatters, and minor abrasions. This film is also used on airplanes, boats, bikes, motorcycles, and many other areas. PPF only protects the paint but also increases the glossy and hydrophobic to make the car more shining looking.
How many layers usually PPF contains?
Usually PPF is a three layers structured laminated film, including TPU base film layer, protection liner(cap sheet) and matte releaser liner. Some suppliers when provide to customers who use pre-cut machines may remove the cap sheet so the film will be a two layer structure, however, this two layers product put more risk of top coat broken or contamination during shipping process.
Why should put PPF on the car?
PPF can protect your paintwork and help keep your car in pristine condition. Vehicles often lose value if the original paint broken and resprayed. PPF can prevent stone chips and small scratches damage to the paint, as well as keep your car looks fresh.
How is PPF installed and can DIY?
PPF is a film applied directly to original paint in select areas or on your entire car by professional installers. It is a “wet installation” similar to window film using a soap and water mixture to align the PPF before squeegeeing it into place. It is possible to DIY install small pieces of PPF to a car. However, to install over a front bumper or a full bonnet requires significant skill. PPF installers are highly trained craftsmen who typically have had professional training and several years installation experience.
Does PPF need maintenance?
To help maintain maximum performance of paint protection film, periodic care and attention is recommended. Hand wash with soap and water when needed. For gloss finishes, wax with a non-abrasive car wax once or twice a year to help maintain the appearance and surface protection.
Can PPF be waxed?
Waxing is recommended to help maintain the appearance and surface protection. For gloss finishes, wax with a non-abrasive car wax once or twice a year. However, some waxes will add a level of gloss to matte paint protection film. There are car waxes on the market formulated specifically for matte finishes.
How does PPF compare with ceramic coatings?
Ceramic coatings do not offer the same level of rock chip and surface protection as paint protection film. Reaction PPF features the 2-in-1 advantage of PPF protection and the benefits of ceramic coating—backed by a manufacturer’s warranty. The life expectancy of ceramic coating can be approximately 1-4 years, requiring regular reapplication depending on the product.
What is the self healing of PPF?
Almost all PPF products are self-healing. Self-healing means that small scratches on the film’s surface will heal by themselves over time. The topcoat is constructed in such a way that small scratches re-bond and level out. Note that the film will not self-heal if cut right through or if the urethane layer is badly damaged.
What is the warranty of Zeofilms PPF?
We offer a 5 years warranty on our Gloss and Matte/Satin PPF, and a 5 years warranty on our Colored PPF, covering defects such as yellowing, cracking, and peeling. This warranty is comprehensive and includes labor and material costs associated with the replacement of the film. Additionally, the warranty is fully transferable should the vehicle ownership change, provided the new owner completes a PPF inspection and updates the warranty transfer.
When can I clean my car after PPF installation?
Ideally the vehicle should not be washed for 72 hours after installation. We do not recommend pressure-washing the vehicle in the 2 weeks following the installation. This gives the film sufficient time to bond to the vehicle surface, for any excess moisture to evaporate, and for PPF edges to fully adhere. We also don’t recommend use any non-neutral chemicals to wash the car even after PPF installed for sometime.
